Rapotín lies in the valley of the Desná River, north-east of Šumperk. The village extends for about eight kilometres from Šumperk to the château at Losiny. On 1 January 2026, it had 3,293 residents.

Rapotín's first written mention dates to 1391. The village is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built in 1874 and listed as a cultural monument since 2006. The Chapel of St Michael is a small Baroque structure from the second half of the 18th century. The Bukovka lookout stands above Rapotín on Bukový kopec, at 625 metres above sea level, and offers views of the Desná valley and the Jeseníky. The Rapotín Glassworks Museum recalls the local glassworks, which made lighting glass until 2008. Klamárium is a tourist information centre with an interactive exhibition of optical illusions inspired by the Jeseníky.
